Personal FM listening systems improve the user's ability to hear a speaker over background noise. FM systems send wireless, low power FM frequency radio transmission signals from the teacher/speaker’s microphone to the student/listener’s receiver, which is typically attached to a cochlear implant or hearing aid (need either headphones or neck loop).
Who May Benefit From This Assistive Technology?: Works well for children with hearing impairments or children with sensory sensitivities who may be overwhelmed with loud background noise. Can be used with older children for lectures or younger children for circle/story time. Should not be used when the teacher does not want the student to hear everything they are saying. Not affected by direct sunlight, unlike Infrared systems.
